Thankful Thursday

Well, I'm thankful again this morning.  God is so good; there is always something to thank Him for, even when we are not having a good day.

I'm thankful for a good report from my doctor.  In the fall, I started having some mild chest pain.  It continued for a while, so I went in to see about it.  My family doctor sent me to an internist for cardiac testing and blood work.  Because heart disease and stroke are the leading cause of death among Canadian women, he felt it prudent.  I had all my tests done and got a clean bill of health in that area, but the internist suspects an acid reflux condition may be the problem.  He suggested I monitor my diet and eating habits and then I get to have one of those dreadful barium x-rays.  I'm still feeling discomfort, but knowing it's not my heart is something to be thankful for.

I'm thankful for my youngest son getting another acceptance for university in the mail, this time Wilfrid Laurier University.  He's still pretty well decided on University of Waterloo, but it's nice to have choices.  I'm thankful that his English teacher told him he was a superior essay writer.  I'm thankful for his beautiful piano playing at a music festival last night.  He played "Laurentide Waltz," which is a composition by the great Oscar Peterson.  The adjudicator, as often happens, recommended everything my son's teacher said he shouldn't do with the piece, but my son was gracious with the comments.  He got an 85, and that's encouraging, since he'll play that for his exam in August.

I'm thankful for being able to teach the bible.  I'm sure I get more out of it than the students do.  I'm thankful for the accountability that teaching regularly gives me.

I am thankful that there is sun in the forecast.  I seriously think I had a little bit of SADD, because this past while, with the grey dismal days, I have been lethargic and often just morose.  I'll be glad when the sun arrives later this week.  I heard a Cardinal bellowing out his lovely tune yesterday morning, so it feels like Spring is on its way.  I'm thankful I don't live in one of those places where the sun seldom shines.

I'm thankful for good health.  The doctor told me that the chances of me having a heart attack or stroke in the next ten years is 1.5% considering my test results and family history.  That's a blessing.  I plan to continue exercising and eating right.

I'm thankful for the cross.  What else is there to say?  I'm studying John 19; I am so amazed at how God orchestrated the details. It makes me feel small in a good way.

Hi Kim, I just wanted to let you know that I have been dealing with chest pain also. I had a barium test as well as an endoscopy. I was told that it is acid reflux. The doctors wanted to put me on meds but I would rather try to improve with nutrition. My hubby and I have been reading a lot about healing with food and we found that if you cut meat out of your diet and drink cabbage juice that it relieves your reflux symptoms. I have been doing this for less than two weeks and I feel great! No pain at all and I can sleep laying down after several years of being propped up. I use a juicer to make the cabbage juice. I combine carrots, apples, and cabbage and drink a glass twice a day. I hope that this is helpful for you.
Blessings,
Jacky

Thanks, Jacky. I have been limiting my red meat intake.
