Quick, random thought as I get ready to go to a Getty's concert.  Yes, THE Gettys.

Authentic.  That's a popular word.  People think your "authentic" if you tell them how sinful you are and are honest about your struggles.

The risk with that?  We take morbid pleasure in hearing about the sin of others so that we don't feel so bad about ours.

Yes, a cynical way of looking at things, but it bears some thought.

I know other people struggle.  They know I do.  I know they know, and vice-versa.  What I don't need to know all the time is details.

The love of "authenticity" often has more to do with being in the know.

It's something to think about when you feel like someone isn't being "authentic" because he won't share the gory details of his sin.
