A Month of Thanksgiving - 28

I am thankful this afternoon for Handel's Messiah and safe roads.

I had to take my daughter back to school this afternoon, and the roads were clear and the music was good.  It was a nice, peaceful interlude at the beginning of a week which will be quite busy.

Tomorrow night, I have to teach the first two chapters of Jonah.  I must have slept funny or something last night, and my neck is a bit stiff, and I feel uncomfortable at my desk.  I am hoping to feel all better tomorrow as I use the morning to finish things off.

A Month of Thanksgiving - 27

I'm thankful this morning for good deals!  I have long needed another Dutch Oven.  When one has mashed potato lovers, it is always good to have more than big pot, and I have a wonderful roast beef recipe that requires cooking the roast on the stove top.  Problem is, I need mashed potatoes to go with this, and that means having two Dutch ovens.  I have long wanted a Kitchen Aid cast iron dutch oven, but they are not cheap.  I decided this morning that I would give myself my early Christmas present and buy one regardless of the price.  When I got to the checkout, I was thrilled to see that it was on sale for $29.99, which is about 2/3 off of the regular price!  With Christmas presents having to be purchased over the next number of weeks, I felt much better about indulging in this little purchase.

And tonight, we will have French Pot Roast, with mashed potatoes!

A Month of Thanksgiving - 26

How thankful I am for surprises!  I had not expected both of my kids to be coming home again until after their exams are over, but it turns out that my daughter is coming home this weekend, along with my son.  We're all going to see Harry Potter tonight.  That was an unexpected thing, and I am thankful for it!

A Month of Thanksgiving - 25

I am thankful that I can stay indoors today.  It is my most UNfavourite fall weather:  cold rain.  I don't mind cold if I can bundle up, but when it's cold and wet and windy, like today, I don't like to venture out.  I am thankful that I can remain indoors most of today and stay warm!

A Month of Thanksgiving - 24

I am thankful this morning for my daughter.  Even though we have very different personalities, we seem to get along quite well.  And that is a blessing, because a few years ago, things were not all that great between us.  I am thankful that though she still struggles to understand all of the elements of the faith, she wants to keep looking.  I am thankful that she's graduating from university in April, and will go on, Lord willing, to do her Master's in English.  She is a young lady who is discreet, kind, and merciful.  She is a born studier, just like her mother, and we talk a lot about such things.

One of her struggles it that she is not overly organized.  This has been a bone of contention in the past.  Right now, she is in the midst of a tax issue with the Government of Canada.  I keep encouraging her that if she kept all of her papers in once place, things would be better.  She called this morning to ask me if I found a piece of correspondence which she is looking for.  I had looked for it, and foundly an empty manilla file folder which I gave to her labelled, "Tax Information."   Sigh.  I had to laugh at the irony of it.  And I have yet to find the paper.  But I am thankful that I can laugh at it.
